The best part of homestays for me is getting to know people and inspiring confidence in using the English language. We always have great fun together: in lessons, in experiencing our local area, and especially in cooking. I love seeing students grow in confidence as they practise English in real situations – it's one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

What I love most about this role is meeting people from all over the world! Each student arrives with unique learning styles and goals, and I tailor the lessons to their individual needs. I’m a semi-retired primary school teacher with a degree in English and American Literature. It’s been my pleasure to work with LLE for a number of years and to teach many amazing students from ages 8 to 40. A lot of the students return – and we feel that all of them are part of our family.

One of the best parts is the chance to learn from students too – here I’m being guided through a Japanese tea ceremony. Whisking the tea takes a lot of practice! I also love playing games (Scrabble included!), cooking, and sharing hobbies with my students.
